Dresden is located in the Federal German state of Saxony, located on the eastern side of Germany roughly half way between the northern and southern borders. Bus travel to Dresden is potentially the most uncomfortable way to travel for a tourist as it can be a long way to this eastern European city from the west of Europe. It is however a cheap option and there are many services from most major European destinations. There are two main train stations in the city of Dresden, Dresden Neustadt in Schlesischer Park and the Hauptbahnhof on Wiener Platz. Germany is fitted with a good fast train network, and trains arrive and depart in Dresden all day from local, national and international destinations. This main line is the Deutsche Bundesbahn line where more than a dozen trains arrive from Berlin and Frankfurt every day. Prague and Liepzig are fairly close to Dresden and are definitely worth checking out if they are on your route, as is the German capital of Berlin which is only a little over two hours away by train.
